If you go to Object > Clip > Set Inverse, you can switch which part is visible. Is your GIMP eraser not working This can be a simple fix depending on the problem you are experiencing. The added fun of using this Eraser tool option, is you can use the clip features that Inkscape offers. When you draw the eraser stroke, the stroke will be clipped from the shape so the original shape will remain its own path. In the Cut-Out mode, the eraser is used to draw a red path, similar to a path created by the Calligraphy Tool. You are left with 2 objects as you can see below. If you select this option, then make an eraser line that goes all the way through the shape. With this Eraser Tool option, you have the added feature to Break Apart Cut Items. This is a fun way to cut out designs from a shape - think snowflakes! When you draw the eraser stroke, the stroke will be cut out from the shape. There are no additional features to this Eraser Tool option. This is an easy way to delete a whole object. Instead of the eraser, well be using the Pen tool to draw a line similar to the previous. In this case, the whole ellipse will be completely erased. The best way to erase in Inkscape is to use boolean path operations. When you draw the eraser stroke, any objects touching that stroke will be completely erased. Option 1 - Delete Objects Touched by Eraser When you use the Eraser tool, it automatically converts the ellipse shaped pattern. So youre not using the Eraser tool on a simple path, youre using it on a pattern. Technically, it applies Pattern Along Path automatically, using an ellipse for the pattern. You can select the Eraser Tool from the left toolbar or use the shortcut Shift + E. The reason its doing that, is because you used the Pencil with the Ellipse shape mode. You cannot use the Eraser tool with a PNG or JPEG. Note, the eraser tool can be used with shapes or paths including imported vector files such as SVG.
